Rough couple of weeks!

Two weeks ago Zander was diagnosed with MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Stapholococus Areus). From our reading and what the DR told us, it can be quite the serious infection. He is now colonized with it and will have it the rest of his life. We have to watch every time he gets a runny nose and make sure that he doesn't have any open sores (the staph lives in the nose). A few days after Zander's dianosis Layton was getting dressed after taking a bath and I noticed really big sores on the back of his legs. They looked just like Zander's had...only MUCH bigger! Back to the DR we went (4th time in 6 days). He was put on the same medicine Zander was...Sulfatrim.

Due to how contagious this can be the three of us were basically house-bound. That got old really quick. On the 8th day of Zander taking his meds he broke out into a rash on his face and body. The rash on his face was terrible....VERY red, hot, and itchy! We went back to the DR (5th time in a week) and it was decided that Zander is allergic to the medication he was taking to treat the MRSA. Although the DR did order blood tests to rule out Fifth's Disease (slapped face). That was quite the ordeal....I thought they were just going to do a finger prick or heel prick. Nope!. They pulled out his arm and found the vein, poked and the vein rolled. So they dug around for a while and still couldn't get it. So they moved to the next arm. Same thing happened. After digging around for a while they finally pulled the needle out and called another person down. She poked and the vein rolled again, although she was finally able to get the needed blood. All the while Zander is screaming and I am having to hold him down. I know how badly that can hurt, I can't imagine how he was feeling. It was horrible having to see him go through that.

Friday and Saturday nights were MISERABLE!!! Zander slept maybe two hours total each night. The rest of the time he was crying and itching. I gave him children's benadryl hoping that it would help with the itching and possibly knock him out. NO such luck! It was horrible. Sunday morning he woke up and the skin on his cheeks was peeling off. (The pictures are of the rash)

Matt and a friend from the ward gave Zander a blessing on Sunday. Thankfully he has been doing so much better since then. He is sleeping better and is feeling so much better. Layton's sores are pretty much gone and it looks like everyone just might be on the mend for now! *fingers crossed*
