Chase was so excited to go elk and deer hunting this fall . . . he had talked about it for at least a year, probably more than that. Grandpa Yearsley put Chase in for an elk hunt , but unfortunately he didn't draw that. Matt and Chase decided to purchase elk tags near Palisades and went hunting for several days the first week of November. They woke up early in the morning and headed over Palisades (about 2.5 to 3 hours) to get there before sun up. It was a bitter 6 degrees the first morning and they had no heat in the truck the whole weekend....BRRR. Matt said that the hills were nasty to climb, yet Chase was like a mountain goat. Although they didn't have the opportunity to shoot at anything Chase and dad had a great time. Uncle Ben even joined them one day.
Chase was fortunate enough to draw the youth deer hunt around Gooding that Grandpa Yearsley had put him in for. Matt and Chase ran into deer the very first moring and were able to get a shot or two off, but unfortunately none of them hit. Later that afternoon they got into some more deer, but as Chase shot the scope went all wacky and the shots were bad. After several more days seeing deer and more shots, the hunt ended without a deer. What mattered most, though, was that Chase and Matt enjoyed the time spent together. I am grateful for a husband that is willing to give of his time to teach his boys how to hunt to have fun with them.
