Splat!

Last night as Matt and I were sitting at the table doing our taxes a truck drove by rather quickly and it sounded as if something fell out of the back, but honestly, I really didn't think much of it. A little while later Matt commented on how every car that drove by was slowing down as they went past our house. So I look out the window and sure enough the cars would slow down and several even drove by turned around and drove by again. We really started wondering what was going on. Next thing we know there is an officer by our driveway. Matt started to go out to see what was going on but the officer left. Not long after that a 4 wheeler pulled into the drive so Matt went out to see what was going on. The neighbor proceeded to tell Matt that there was a dog that had been hit and was wondering if it was ours. Sure enough, it was "Old Man" (a fitting name for him since he was seriously on his last leg). We had inherited "Old Man" when we moved into the house. He was so old that the owners were certain that he would die soon so they just left him with the neighbor, but this is his home so he came back. He was a good dog. Gentle with the kids and mainly laid around. He was slow though because he was so old. Yesterday his head got shut in the automatic door of the van twice. Matt says that is probably the reason that he got hit . . . he was disoriented. I guess it was pretty bad (he was in several pieces). I feel bad for the poor dog.

O' I am so sorry! That sucks when a good old man passes on. I hope the kids are ok with it. I was really worried that it had been black jack. Phew! But it is still a sad loss. Love ya tons Kat and Doug

Oh, that is terrible! Splat? Ugh.
Who got to clean that up?

Your kids have sure been exposed to a lot of animal deaths. I guess that prepares them for bigger death events that will come their way.
