Summer: The Final Month

August seems like it came and went super fast.  It was another busy month, but we were able to squeeze in some fun times before school and everything else started. 

The first weekend in August we made a drive over to Boise to spend Saturday boating with the Barnes clan at Black Canyon Reservoir.  It was so fun to be able to play in the water, go tubbing behind the boat, eat, and enjoy good company!  Jordan brought his jet skis and those added another element of fun, Chase even got the chance to drive one.  Zander and McKay had fun riding the jet ski with uncle Jordan.  Declan wasn't too happy about having to spend most of the day in Baby Jail (ie--the porta crib).  He had fun playing in the water and sitting in the floaty car. 

Dad and mom had to race home after boating in order to be back at church the next morning to do sharing time and conduct sacrament, it was a late night for us.  The older 3 boys got to stay in Boise with Mama and Papa.  They had a fun week doing lots of swimming, visiting cousins and great grandpa Blackhurst, going to stores, working at Papa's garden, etc. 

August was also filled with canning more food (beans and peaches), lots of carp hunting and fishing--Layton caught his very first bass,  the beginning of football practices and jamboree, Declan found the dryer, and LOTS of popcicles were consumed . . .

August also brought the start of school (August 27th).  We now have two kids at West Minico Middle School and two at Paul Elementary.  It is crazy to think that Chase is in 8th grade now.  Trey is in 6th grade and in middle school.  After the first couple days of school Trey came home and said that middle school is "way better than elementary school."  Layton is in 4th grade and our Zander Man is in  morning kindergarten.  Zander was SO excited to start school and to ride the bus.

We finished off the month celebrating dad's 37th birthday.  We had Pizza Hut's meat lover's pizza for dinner along with salad, soda, and fruit.  Then dad opened his presents which were a carp hunting arrow, a gun target, and money.  Then we finished off the night with his cake--Oreo Cheesecake Cake.  It was yummy, but super rich.  It was fun to celebrate the wonderful man in our lives and all that he does for us.  He is the best dad and husband that we could ask for.  We are truly blessed!

 

  We had a great Summer and look forward to what this fall has in store for us!

August part 2

Matt finally came home from Wisconsin on the 18th of August. That night dad and mom (& Declan) went to dinner and stayed in a hotel in Twin Falls while the boys stayed home with Grandma Yearsley.  Grandma headed back to Hamer the next day and we spent the afternoon at Dierkes Lake swimming, playing in the sand, fishing, and playing on the playground.  It was so fun to spend time as a family again! 

August 22nd marked the start of another school year!  Although mom was ready at this point after having been a single parent for nearly a month it did seem as though the summer just flew by way too fast.

August 27th marked the offical start of football season with the Annual MCYCFL Jamboree.  It ran a bit late, but it was still fun to see to see Chase and Trey play mini-games.

August 30th Matt celebrated his 36th birthday!  It was a rushed night with him getting home late then we had a dinner of roasted red peper and sausage pasta, salad, pineapple, and italian sodas (all his choosing of course).  He quickly opened his gifts and then it was time for Better Than __ cupcakes.  Then he and Chase were off to mutual for mud football--all of this took place in less than an hours time.  PHEW!

Back to School 2010

It's hard to believe, but it is that time of year again . . . back to school for the boys! School started on August 23rd, a bit too early if you ask me. Layton and Trey are still attending school at Paul Elementary and are in 2nd and 4th grade. They have both said that they really like their teachers, so that is good. Chase is now a 6th grader at West Minico Jr. High. Yikes! When did he get old enough to be in JR. High?!? Chase is enjoying school and the different classes that he gets to take. He is really excited about science and FACS (home ec.). Our house is definitely more quiet now that the older boys are in school, but we (Z & M especially ) already miss having the boys home.

We have had a busy couple weeks with school getting out and the holiday weekend. One of the most exciting things was Chase's 5th grade graduation! It is hard to believe that he is no longer in elementary school and that he is moving on to Junior High. EEK! Anyway, the graduation was nice. They presented the diplomas and then the 5th graders sang a song followed by a few words by the principal. Then a fun video of pictures was shown. Thanks to G&G Yearsley for driving down to be there.

Some more exciting news about Chase . . . he found out that he was chosen to be on the student council next year. He was so excited to try for it and even more excited to find out that he was chosen to be a part of it. We are so proud of Chase and the hard work that he puts into his school work. He is a great student and finished the year with straight A's and some of the highest ISAT scores in the school! Way to go Chase!

Hi-Ho, Hi-Ho, its back to school they go!

Yesterday was the first day of school for Chase, Trey, and Layton. As much as they said they weren't excited for school, I think they truly were excited to go back. And I have to admit that I was READY for them to go. They were starting to get on each other's nerves and fighting more, so it was TIME! They wanted to ride the bus to school so I only got pictures of them before they left. They all came home and said how much they like their new teachers, let's hope it stays that way. Trey was excited to find out that he had been placed in Mrs. Stearns' class (my dad's aunt). I am so glad that we don't have kindergarten this year. That half a day stuff was NOT fun! It really limited what I was able to do. There was never enough time to run to Twin Falls. It will be nice not to have to worry about that for a few years. It is weird to think how fast the boys are growing up...it makes me sad at times, but it is fun to see them experience these new parts of life. I am sure they are going to have a great school year!

Zander was a little sad to not have his older brothers home to play with. He had fun playing with McKay some of the time, but the rest of the time he kept saying "Chase home? Trey home? Layton home?" He was so excited to see the bus pull up and the boys cross the road. He really loves his older brothers.

Back to School!!

I know, I know....I am a little late in getting this posted but better late than never right?!?! The boys were excited to make their "clothes person" the night before school started.
Chase is in 4th grade, Trey 2nd grade, and Layton started kindergarten (all-day kinder). Layton was so excited to ride the bus with Chase and Trey that he didn't want me to take him to school on his first day. They catch the bus at 7:14 and don't get home from school until 3:30....it is a very long day. I thought Layton might have a hard time with the long days but he is doing well. I must admit that having just Zander home is kind of nice.

School is out!!!

Last Friday was Chase and Trey's last day of school. It was a bitter/sweet moment for me. I don't know if I am ready for summer yet. It is hard for me to believe that Chase is going to be in 4th grade and that Trey will be in 2nd. And that Layton will be joining them at school. Crazy.

The last week was a fun week for them. There were award assemblies where Trey recived a Citizenship Award! Great job Trey! Chase received a Social Studies Acheivement Award, Award of Excellence (it says Doing Ordinary things in an extraordinary way), and an Acedemic Award for Spanish. He was also awarded the first place medal for having the most AR (Accelerated Reader) points for the 1st-3rd grades. We are so proud of both boys!

Tuesday was crazy hair day at school. Since the boys already do their hair in a messy spike we decided that we would color their hair with Kool-Aid. It turned out pretty cool. It rained that day but fortunately the Kool-aid didn't run down their faces.
