Blue & Gold

This year for the Blue & Gold Banquet the Cub Scouts and Scouts were asked to make cakes that went with the theme "What I like about scouting". Chase and Trey had a great time designing and decorating their cakes. Trey did a pinewood derby car and Chase did a campout scene complete with fishing chocolate santas. The cakes were judged and then served as the dessert.

Trey also received his Bear along with 4 arrow points that night.
Great job Trey!

Klondike 2011

This past weekend Chase and Matt got to go up near Pommerelle for the annual Klondike derby with the scouts. Chase built a nice snow cave for he and some of his friends to sleep in Friday night. He said that they were nice and warm until he heard a sound that made him think the cave was caving in. So they hopped out sometime in the middle of the night and got into a leader's car where they got super cold. They ended up sleeping in a tent with other scouts, but were cold the rest of the night. Too bad they didn't stay in the cave where it was warm. It never did cave in. Saturday was supposed to be filled with relays and all sorts of fun stuff, but the weather was TERRIBLE . . . snowing, blowing, and bitter cold, so it was canceled. The boys ended up cooking their breakfast at the church in order to pass some thing off and then went home.

Night at the Races

After a month and a half of designing, sawing, sanding, painting, and much anticipation Trey participated in his first pinewood derby. This was the first year in what sounds like quite a while that our ward had a pinewood derby for the cub scouts. (Our new Cubmaster said he will do one EVERY year he is in). Trey was so excited to design, cut, sand, and paint his own car. He did a great job! Unfortunately I was home with sick kids the night of the race so I missed out on all the fun, but Trey had a blast!

Scouting fun

January was a fun month for Chase and Trey in scouts. First of all, Trey earned his Wolf badge along with a gold arrow point and 6 silver arrows. He was so excited to earn his Wolf badge and we are so proud of him and the work that he put into it. Way to go Trey! **I don't know why the lighting in the pictures always turns out so weird at the church.**
For pack meeting the cub scouts had turtle races. They had painted their turtles a couple of den meetings before (while Chase was still in cub scouts). Chase and Trey had fun racing their turtles. Chase was the over-all winner . . . mainly because he had an unfair height advantage. :) Matt even got in on the fun!

And finally, Chase got to go on his first of many winter campouts. He was so excited to go and sleep in a snow cave. When he and Matt got there though all the scouts were in a tent and the dads were in a camper. Chase chose to sleep with his friends rather than dig a snow cave. The next morning they did a bunch of snow challenges (sled pulling, fire building, etc). Chase and Matt ended up coming home early due to a wreck Chase had on the sled that jarred his back. I am glad that Matt was able to take the night off work to be able to take Chase. He had a blast on his first campout as a scout.

Arrow of Light

We are so proud of Chase and wanted to share his accomplishment. Last week he was awarded the 'Arrow of Light' which is the highest award that can be given to a cub scout. He has worked very hard to earn it. The Scoutmaster did a neat little presentation with the lights out, a small light from a flashlight, and drums beating where he talked about the path of a cub scout. After Chase was presented the Arrow of Light he had to put on a blindfold and with the aid of poles he had to "cross over" a beam to his new boy scout troop. It was a neat night for Chase.
