October 2012 (part 2)

Matt and Chase spent a couple weekends up in Copper Basin hunting for elk and deer.  Chase and Matt both got a deer.  Chase was so excited to shoot his first deer.  They saw a lot of elk and even shot at some, but didn't get anything.  They had a scary moment when they were shot at.  They are thinking it was intentional because they were wearing their hunter orange and no where near another animal.  Scary!

The last week of October is always crazy with Halloween fun and McKay's birthday.  We started off the week with our annual pumpkin night.  We had "Dinner in a pumpkin" and then carved pumpkins and had a pumpkin dessert.  It was fun to see everyone's pumpkin designs.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We celebrated McKay's birthday the next night (October 30th) due to our ward Halloween dinner and trunk-or-treat on Halloween night.  It is hard to believe that McKay is already 4...where does the time go?  McKay chose to have ranch cheese pizza, jello, pineapple, and carrots for his birthday dinner.

  

 McKay got several trucks and other fun stuff for his birthday. 

 

For his birthday cake McKay chose cupcakes...with filling in the middle and flavored frosting.  Yum!

 

 

And Halloween....EVERYONE had fun dressing up this year.  Dad was a redneck, mom a baker, Chase a cowboy, Trey a phantom, Layton a penguin, Zander a raccoon, McKay a cow, Declan a dragon, and Keely a ghost.

Pumpkin Night 2011

We celebrated our annual Pumpkin Night October 24. The evening started out with a dinner of Cheese Ravioli in pumpkin alfredo sauce (so yummy), salad, garlic bread, and pickled beets. Then began the fun of gutting and carving the pumpkins. Everyone except Declan had their own pumpkin. It was fun to see what each kid decided to carve. After carving and clean up we decorated pumpkin-shaped sugar cookies. It was a fun, messy night!

About six years ago I decided to start "Pumpkin Night". The idea is that each year we have something made with pumpkin for dinner (& dessert if time permits) and we carve our Halloween pumpkins. This year for dinner we had Pumpkin, barley, sage soup along with some everyday things....homemade chicken fingers, and veggies. The soup was a hit! After cleaning up dinner it was time to carve the ginormous pumpkins!Zander asked me to "carve a mommy pumpkin with lips and eyelashes." Then he ate the parts of pumpkin that I had just carved out. Luckily Chase, Trey and Layton are old enough that they can do all of the carve themselves so I don't have to halep much. (Carving pumpkins is not my favorite thing to do) I carved a quick face on McKay's pumpkin and then we let him have a butter knife and go to town on his pumpkin. He had a blast sticking the knife in and pulling it out. Unfortunately there wasn't much left of his pumpkin, but he was happy so that was all that mattered! Once everyone was done carving their pumpkins we had to light them so we could see what they looked like. Everyone did such a good job with their pumpkins and more importantly everyone had fun!We finished off the evening by decorating cupcakes. It was another great 'pumpkin night'.
